An Experiment
This pen was made by my son and it is his first attempt at making a pen. He has asked me not reveal what the timber is and has asked that members have guess at what it is. It came off the property where I live so hence the experiment with the timber. The finish is lacquer dipping. So any comments are welcome.

Like the pen, particularly the blank!!
Timber has me stumped but may I ask if the timber is native to your area??

Yes it is native to my area but my son wanted to keep it to himself because he is quite proud of his achievement at a new idea and his first attempt at turning. It is something I have never seen on the forum before. Although this timber was pretty unstable he really took his time at turning it.

Bazza and Son,
Name of your timber Interesting and IMHO not neccessary cause I like it and have no interest in pursuing some just enjoying. There is not enough time to pursue every species. That is an interesting shape or feature in it well done that man looks like it bit back at one stage.
Kind regards Peter.Nil Desperandum

Nice work on the pen. Is it Mistletoe with some of the host timber?
It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

My son Greg says thanks for all the great comments. Good guess Corbs you possibly have used it before it is a Mistletoe from a Yellowbox tree. He has been going around the property collecting all the fallen Mistletoe's but the trouble is he is getting a lot of waste because they have a lot of cracks in them.
