    Default Father Sing

Got these kits from GPW 2 years ago, known as a double taper in some places and CSUSA sells them as the Father Sing pen after Dick Sing. Timber is Curly Jarrah. Comments or critiques welcome.

    Darren,
Interesting pen kit. Your workmanship is top notch as always, and the wood is kickin (our slang for awesome).

    Cheers,

Years ago Dick Sing and his wife were in Canberra and Dick gave us for a price the Wood Guild that is a seminar on pens and small objects,I was fascinated and he is the most meticulous turner I have ever seen.He measured everything to the tiniest margins, exact was best. He respected his tools, lathe and measuring gear indeed since then I have viewed a dvd he made in his workshop in his home. His quite old machinery looks like new,his workshop immaculate. He told us he was approached by the Nish empire in the USA to allow them to have pen kits made to Dicks specs and called the Papa Sing. So impressed was I that he noticed and said he would like me to have both a kit and two glued blanks of his.I made the pen and have it still,he stood for quality of workmanship, friendship altogether a delightful person devoted to his wife with an engineering background of his own,a great respect for quality. His books depict him as he is and speaks,a real ambassador among men.

So here you bring back these memories because you work so hard sharing with your pen making and this pen seems to me to show yet another revealed treasure. Thanks mate you are pushing us all with the variety and also the pics are able now to show the detail that we all love.

I assume the kit is the one that is the same as the slimeline, but with the fatter centre band. Same as a Streamline also. Rather than a double taper, I keep it straight on the top half and curl it in on a radius towards the clip, that way it is a thicker pen all up.

Peter thank you for the kind words, I just enjoy doing what I do but it is my girl that I give credit to, other wise no one would have seen the pens I am crafting at the moment. I have never met Dick Sing but you have comfirmed what others have said, a master in his field and a true gentleman in the true sense of the meaning.
