Ian , looks like you are using a sierra tube ,not much room between tube and fittings , the smaller feathers should be fine as far as the ribs go, you don't need total coverage of the tube for this to look effective, with the white feathers you can gently scrape the spines with a sharp tool to thin it down a bit. Use the smaller top parts of the white feathers for coverage one each side after you have them glued in place In would use two of your contrasting feathers in between and not reaching full length of the tube as it is painted so full coverage is not needed ,that should give you the thinest coverage possible and allow for a coverage of acrylic to finish off , all this is still " works in progress" so pretty much do what you think will work for you good luck with it all hehe, cheers John

    Neither!

CA can react with the feathers, epoxy would be good, but it takes too long to go off and the feathers will not sit still . I tried it wrapping the feathers with epoxy in baking paper but the feather did not sit down flat enough. Even if a little paper sticks, it will also spoil the blank.

Using a contact adhesive is best, pressing firmly as you roll them on, but you have the problems with reactivity with the resins to ensure they stay stuck. The spray adhesive also works best for large feathers, spraying both sides, as it holds the feather fibres together and they can be cut away from the quill.

    Cheers

    Hey Ian

After seeing some of your shedded snake skin pens im sure you will succeed with feathers. Look forward to seeing your results

I have heritage breed 'girls' with lovely feathers if you would like me to gather them when they throw their feathers away - silver spangle hamburgs (white feather with a black spot) plymoth rock (black and white stripe) bramahs - in browns and golden, a grey feathered hen etc sadly a fox got a few recently and I need to restock.

    Another chookaphile!

Mine are silver and gold laced Wyandottes, and throw in the odd "moggie",
