FED UP with the heat in the shed.
Fed up, thats the best way I can describe not being able to work in my shed after about 9am. Recently I set up a casting room in my shed so I could cast ww, decals, coloured PR blanks etc to my hearts content, but since mid Dec its been to bloody hot in the shed to get really stuck into it. Well two weeks ago I said enough is enough (not that anyone listened) and kicked number one son out of the sleep out which is insulated and air conditioned and back inside the house. AaaHaaaa I now have the ideal spot to set up a new casting and pen assembly room. Two weeks down the track and all systems are go. The idea is to do most of my pen making in the new "pen room" as SWMBO calls it, and will only need to use the shed for blank cutting, turning and some of the finishing. Being insulated and not to large a space I will be able to heat the space as required during winter as well, and of course it will be relatively dust free and easier to clean. The positioning of the air con directly opposite the door allows for the fan only mode to be used to force fumes etc away from the work areas and out the door. I have attached some pics with this post for your perusal.
Cheers Rumnut

Now to get the lathe in there, so you can turn in comfort. A half decent dusty should keep the dust from the pens under control.
I haven't bothered to a/c my shed, although I am looking at a spare a/c unit, just behind the monitors . . .Pat

Lookin good Once you establish optimum working conditions you should get much better and more consistant results ,especially for casting as the variations we face do give unreliable results at times , Just be careful you don't end up having to install a camp stretcher hehe. Cheers ~ John
G'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

I'm with mach70. A bit like a rat with a gold tooth rummy, very flash(y). You coulda used that split system you butchered to make your vacuum rig for the shed.
cheers mate

Trev - good setup. There is no need to have a conscience just because you deprive your son of somewhere to sleep. It might encourage him to leave the nest a bit earlier I put an air conditioner in my shed to keep it cool as I wasn't allowed to use the second bedroom for pen turning. Just watch those fumes - if they get into the house you might be sleeping with the dog.

Hi Rumnut,
What a great setup for a casting room. Everything on hand and in order and very well laid out, we just need to see some of your nice castings now
Cheers
Tony.
