filling ink on fountain pens
Just wondering if there is a preferred method for filling fountain pens?

What type?
The old bladder & lever? Single load cartridges? Or the 'piston action' refillable cartridges?
My 'preferred method' is to get someone else to do it for me. Way less mess that way.

Some people like the bladder type refill because they say it allows the ink flow better on writing, but if you are asking about the actual physical refilling process, in all cases keep the nozzle below the ink line so as not to allow air inside. Amos

Thanks for your replies, I posted too late as the wedding was at 4pm yesterday, so I ended up giving them the pen unfilled.

Probably better sent when empty anyway. Way too much chance of an accident in transit.

Definitely best to leave the ink/ink cartridge out, not only in case of leaking, but also in case of ink drying in the feed. Amos

Had that happen a few times. Soaking nibs for a few weeks....
