    Default Flat top Sierra

    Hi All

Flat top Sierra - Tiger Myrtle. Stripes run through half the blank.

Sanded to 400 grit, 20 coats of thin CA, sanded to 2,000 grit, Brasso then corn flour and automotive wax.

Flat top Sierra is exactly the same as a standard Sierra except the top cap which is flat.

Thanks for the comments in advance.

Looks good. That's chrome isn't it? The picture seems a bit contrasty & bright, so it's a bit hard to see details.

I like Tiger Myrtle. i think I have 1 blank that I got from somewhere, that I'm saving for a special pen.

I have to try that cornflour finish yet. I thought you used it instead of Brasso, but it's as well?

Those are pretty neat Dave, and like Gary said, they sort of look a bit like the EB's.

I've been watching your posts with interest esp as you are getting new kits for sale.
Will you be offering worldwide shipping and do you know how your prices would compare for us in the UK versus us getting them from USA?

    Cheers

What is the theory behind Brasso then corn flour and then auto wax

Jason - Tiger Myrtle is getting harder to find. However Tiger Myrtle pen blanks can be purchased from Carroll's for $3 each. That's pretty inexpensive in my books.

Rum Pig - Brasso gets it to a really high gloss finish, the cornflour gets it to the next level. You have to have a really good finish in the first instance for the cornflour to be of help. The auto wax by building another layer with a different refractive index to the CA, makes the surface much more reflective, like you have a sheet of glass in front of the timber. Some like it because its really high gloss and smick, others think its plastic and don't believe that there is timber underneath it.

When you say. "Brasso" David, do you mean the good old Brasso liquid in the can or Brasso paste, (havent seen that around for a long time) And the Cornflour, what kind of cornflour? Nice pen by the way. Great work as always.

Skiprat....you dont need any kits to build pens!!! Just a few bolts and screws and you'll churn out a masterpiece...... hahaha

David...... i might have to order more of these Flat tops from you (at least another 100pcs or so)...... also..... would you be carrying any other kits??

Please advise.... thank you so much!!

    Regards
    Gary

PS Looking forward to receiving the kits i placed last week.......

Can you please explain how the Brasso and the cornflour trick works and does it really make that much difference to the pen in the end,
I like the pen but it is hard to see the difference in the pens
    regards Ian
