Found wood - paperbark
I picked up some paperbark trunk etc from the naturestrip on Mowbray Road late last year
When I sliced it up with the chainsaw, I noticed some spalting in the middle.
Interesting timber, purple when wet but dries to a light chocolate brown.
I then sliced some up with the bandsaw and cooked it in the microwave.
And made this cigar - what do you think?

that's really interesting looking with the small random spalting in the straight grain.Rally shows up with the wood so dark, I like it.

A unique looking timber Nick!
The spalting gives the timber some nice contrast.
Cigar fit and finish look great!
Well done.

Nick
Using whatever we can find, buy, see in timber can result in quite an expenditure to save money. It is the challenge to resurrect or diminish that counts.
My experiences with various objects makes me certain the sellers of high class timber blanks provide us very cheaply outstanding examples of variation, colour following selectivity, a friend of mine recently produced 5,000 outstanding Aussie Burl Blanks for sale in the USA an extraordinary feat. The culling pile is enormous and show the gulf between the cost of cast blanks and extraordinary timber.
Enjoy your found road kill Paper Bark, search for more and different timbers the chase is important follow the street tree prunings and removal, be prepared for the long wait to utilise it from large pieces. The quest is part of the obsession.
The Chocolate colouring deepened with finishing, the flecking from the spalting created relief and interest. I can see you enjoyed the process. Good luck on the Microwave sharing program. Neat pen.
Kind regards Peter.Nil Desperandum

Hi Nick,
I've always found Paper Back (that's a Melaleuca, right?) to be pretty boring, so well done with this one. The spalting really makes it pretty schmick
Cheers,
Dave
