    Default Glueing pen parts ?

Hi everyone. Just curious as to how many people epoxy / glue the variouse pen parts in place when assembling their pens. I have always followed David (Timberbits) method using epoxy to permenently hold end caps, center bands etc in place. Cheers fellers

    Hey Pariss,

For what it's worth, I now only ever use Epoxy for gluing tubes on all my pens ( way too many blow outs using CA) for the fiddly bits like hex rings on Workshop pencils I use thick CA.

I don't glue anything, however I am not a pen making guru......just a rank amateur.

Having said that I have not had any issues so far with parts falling out.

    Cheers

I only glue in the bits that usually give me trouble with coming loose. Such as the finial end of the Sierra, I use red Loctite, the threadlocking stuff.
I can get these parts apart again if needed, but they always stay put, unless persuaded.

I use thick CA to glue all my tubes, so far, i've made my fair share of sierra's, a few slims and some sedona's and a couple of odd types here and there, no blow out/s yet.....where's some wood i can touch??. I've made a couple of slims/stream hybrids, but i leave the centreband free and the end cap too for later serviceability if required, i only gift my pens, so thats a difference or consideration or whatever, i take shots of every pen, i am the first to write with them to check the ink, and i "know" them..while its a bit corny i guess, it's how i do 'em, and i know they come back only to me for the love (none as yet).

It's odd, i can turn a sierra and love it, and even still learn from it, i know beforehand if a particular acrylic will take the drillbit well, as i start the cut..and if it will go straight, wood for me is usually fine too but my instincts are less honed, i need more practice on wood. Though i distrust my slim/stream drillbit setup to do the job i ask of it. This is the joy of turning for me.

    Neal.

PS: Just wanted to add, i'm not all about "the zen" of it just what works or seems to to for me yanno. I'm happy with what i produce. and if i need a change i look to my peers too, for without my peers (here) i'd have nothing but a lot of busted up kits =).
