Green Abalone Sierra
G'day Addicts,
Well I got out to my cave today and I knocked up the new Sierra Platinum / Black Titanium - Green Abalone it looks great in real life but man it is very hard to get a good pic of it, no matter where I put it I get a lot of reflection on the blank, it is so shiny.
Anyway here are the pics I hope they are good enough for you guys to see how nice the pen really is. I will try some outdoor shots tomorrow and see how they come out if they are any better I will put another post up.

Once again, excellent pens . I think if you take them in daylight with no flash you may find the green come through better.??? Amos

a old trick is to diffuse the flash. put some grease proof paper over the front of the flash and ya get asofter flash of the flash.
sounds funny but it works.
btw pen is pretty flash. (must have fairly thick abolone over there?First On Race Day
And the first brock trophy goes to...............
and we got no "2" as well
A FORD driver.
ironic isnt it?

Looks great Froggie. I assume the ab is laminate rapped around the sleeve, or is there a filler underneath as well?

Froggie how was it to turn, was it like a normal acrylic. It seems to look more brittle in some photos I have seen. Have you done one out of the Mother of Pearl at all. A small review of the pros and cons in using these new blanks would be nice if you could.
later mate.

Froggie,
Those are astounding! I have the same questions as others. I have seen them on-line and they are interesting.
Another tip for diffusing the flash is putting some sheer nylon over the flash. Always make sure you get clearance from the spousal unit prior to using this technique. I can almost promise that you will grab the "good ones" no matter how much analysis you do first.

Thank you for your comments.
Firstly I don't know the exact process they use to do it but to me it looks like a laminate rapped around the sleeve it didn't seem to have any filler underneath.
Second it was a lot easier to turn than the normal acrylics more like an opalic blank but it didn't chip away like the normal opalics tend to do if you put a little to much pressure on them, sanded and polished very easy.
As for the cons well I have nothing to report as far as cons go it was very easy to do however I was very patient to avoid any chance of screw ups.
If there is one thing about the pen that caught me by surprise it is the fact that the top at the finial has a slightly bigger diameter than the nib end however this in no way takes anything away from the beauty of the pen. If there is anything else you want to know that I haven't covered don't hesitate to ask me.
Darren I have just posted pics of the Mother of Pearl and it is obviously no different to turn.
Ohhhh...........by the way Darren I have sent you messages and emails but I don't know if you got them cos you haven't answered me. I would really like to have a chat to you dude.

Nice job, Froggie. That one is an attention getter.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.

Darren
That was and is one of my main reasons for starting this company was to bring something new to pen turners there has been the same old garbage getting around Oz for to long so if ever I can bring you guys something new I will do it. It is a shame that some people think they have a monopoly on the sale of pen kits and would like to see me go out of business.
I will soon have a descent variety of snake skin blanks with the tubes in them and trimmed ready to turn...... oops I better stop I might get accused of advertising. Anyway they are coming.
Keep your eye on the site.
