The potato works well, Just cut a 1/4 inch slice from the middle and then push the tubes into it. Now that I know people have had trouble with tubes and CA I'm betting I will start having this problem. I've only made 15-20 pens so far and always used CA with no trouble (cheap $2, 8 pack of thin). Now I'm going to have this problem..... I have enough trouble getting it on the outside as a finish to start having it as an inside issue as well.

Barry and I use 15 minute epoxy from Gary Pye. Very good value for money and we have never had a failure. Let it set for about a half an hour and away you go. Never have to plug the tubes. Run the epoxy on the bottom 2/3 of the tube with a strip of plastic cut from an ice cream container and push the tube in twisting it back and forward as you go and remove any excess epoxy and push the tube in the last 1/4 with the thread of a Type 17 Tek screw.

I told ya........
The very first pen after reading this issue and I got the problem, tube came out of blank.....
You jinxed me.....
I think I know what went wrong as I didn't do anything different EXCEPT, I put the mill into the drill press to clean the ends up instead of a small cordless or by hand which I have always done before.
Won't do that again.....
