Heart of my Heart
Yep that she is my daughter Heart of My Heart asked for another Purple Heart but this time a pencil Sierra to match her Sierra pen.
Thanks goes to Ian/Dorno for his part in this.
Pat for his part in giving us the Purple Heart some years ago.
Thanks to Bel my daughter for an enjoyable morning sharing the shed and lathe.
Bel cut the blank, drilled it, glued and trimmed the ends, rough turned it and began to shape the Purple Heart blank, but with almost 1inch nails she found holding the Skew a bit of a hassle and being unsteady as her back was giving her a lot of pain she passed the remainder over to me.
I finished off the Pencil as she head home..........life of a housewife.

Nice going, and especially that she loves the Purple Heart, if you leave it in the sun for a day it really purples up! Amos

Missed it before as I was away. Its a very nice pen and well made. Purple Heart is a great timber. As Amos said, a bit of water on it and out into the sun before CA and it restores the colour nicely.

Sun yes, water??? You would be asking for trouble with moisture in the wood with the CA.
Purpleheart varies in properties. The one I have goes a better purple the hotter I made it whilst turning/sanding. I know however, others have experienced a very dark purple with this approach, and recommend avoiding heat to get a bright purple (in the sunlight). Just remember all purple heart will return to a brown in time the longer it is exposed to ultraviolet light.Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

I bought some at the WW show and followed the instructions which was to moisten it before putting it in the sun. I didn't have any trouble with applying CA afterwards but I would image that opening the pores could absorb water. Really it was only a dampening and it dried out fairly quickly hanging in the sun.
