    Default Heinz Ketchup

Found it works great for cleaning and polish brass casings.
It must be all the acid in the ketchup?

    Default Why?

    Les
A good result from an an unusual product.
I can't for the life of me work out why you tried ketchup as a polish, but can see a few pantries being raided by our experimenters.
Peanut butter probably wouldn't work, but Vegemite might be worth a go!

Good luck with all your finishes.

Good question. But it certainly seems to produce a good result

Being a sloppy eater and stuffing your face with chips at the lathe is my guess. A little spilled sauce goes a long way

Most great discoveries are not declared with a cry of "eureka" as we are led to believe, but rather "that's odd..."

I sit here and wonder with amazement at how you came up with that, but I am going to try it anyways.

    Why not!!

At last weekend's gun show I had an old professional knife maker at the table beside me and he told me that ketchup cleans and polishes brass, so why not try it.

    Default Liquid polish

Actually, Coke should work pretty well on brass.
I accidentally bought Coke Zero "Cherry flavour" yesterday, and it tastes terrible. It is only suitable as a polish. It tastes a bit like either aniseed or sarsaparilla. The label looks like the standard Zero label with some extra text which I assumed was some sort of competition.
It is not a competition, and no other soft drink maker would bother to go into competition with this drink, as there would never be any repeat sales.

I would be interested if anyone does like the taste of it.

Have to agree with you Alan, you also have Dr Pepper, it tastes just as bad. The original coke was a good flux for soldering

Peanut butter crunchy works well to clean the black trim on cars - also tin foil is good on chrome .... Just saying
