Hello all...
I wanted to introduce myself before I start peppering you all with questions
My name is George, lifelong lover of working with wood (can't really call myself a woodworker yet), Navy vet, husband and father. I haven't worked at a lathe since turning a really horrible baseball bat in junior high about 20 years ago.
I have always wanted to get into turning pens, and finally took the plunge this past week and picked up a Steel City mini lathe. I finished setting up my work area in the garage tonight and am just waiting for Christmas morning when I get to open the rest of the tools I need.
So, hello to all, I look forward to chatting with you in the future as I embark on what I am sure is going to turn into an obsession

Welcome to pen turning.
Word of warning, say goodbye to your spare time, spare cash and loved ones because pen turning is highly addictive.
If you have any questions or experience any difficulties making pen, I am sure that one of your fellow forum members will be able to answer or solve it for you.
Merry Christmas and I hope that Santa brings all the tools you require.
Timberbits.

Welcome to the club George... your age shows as 34 and you're a Navy Vet... I'm only one year behind you and still in the Navy (not keen on calling myself a vet yet though, not old enough). Good luck with the turning and get the questions rolling in.
CorbsIt's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

Welcome to the forum, George. Worked on six-sixteens myself back in the day. Eagerly awaiting your first pen picture. You need anything, feel free to ask. We're practically neighbors.

Thanks for the greetings everyone! Luckily I don't have any cooking responsibilities for Christmas dinner this year, so while the wife is cooking I can get right down to business

Welcome George. You'll have a great time here. Remember 'wife' = 'SWMBO' (she who must be obeyed).

Hey George,
Welcome aboard! My Christmas present was getting to pay off all the pen debts I'd accumulated during the year. I'm afraid getting teh equipment is only the start of it
