Hi Russell,
I am viewing this topic along the lines of quality of life and therefore would view taking the package and going to Big W. Nothing better then working close to home and close to family.
Add your redundancy payout to your super fund and sit back and watch it grow, that then becomes your profitable hobby.
Making a living from any type of craft,I believe, is fairy land stuff.
Hope you make the right decision.

Thanks Terry,
Slight problem with investing the redundancy. The wages on offer in the area where I live are pitiful. The average wage is only about half what I'd need to live on. I've seen bank manager jobs advertised at a salary equivalent to a 2nd level public servant. Without the redundancy offsetting the poor wages, at least till I get rid of my mortgage, it's a little difficult.
Yeah I suspect you're right about making a living from a craft, but there are hundreds of small business going broke from non-craft occupations as well, but still there are plenty with the right enthusiasm, attitude and common sense making a go of it. Then there's also those lotto-chance success stories like Bill Gates and J. K. Rowling which tell us we should dare to dream, although I've never won anything in the lotto either
