I assume the threaded tube is tapered to expand the dynabolt sleeve, is this correct?

Nice. So do you just give it a whack to release it again?

Default My Closed End Mandrel To Fit Sierra Pen's

    Hey All

As Requested here is how I did it after fine tuning it a little

Pic1. You need an adjustable mandrel

Pic 2. You Need one Dyna bolt 50mm long and 10mm in size

Pic 3. Take the sleve of the dyna bolt and sand it back a little till it fits snug into the inside of the Sierra tube

Pic 4. Take the nut from the mandrel that goes on the threaded end of the mandrel and grind it round till it fits inside the tube. Take the nut and sand a tapered egde on one side, I used pointy nosed pliers for this, This helps with the flanging of the sleve on the inside of the tube

Pic 5. Pull the mandrel apart

Pic 6. Screw the tapered nut on to the threaded end of the mandrel all the to the end

Pic 7. Push the sleve into tube all the way

Pic 8. Using the Sierra bush push it into the end, This pushes the sleve in more and makes room for the bush to sit were it should as normal.

Pic 9. Slide the tube and all up to the nut at the end of the mandrel

Pic 10. Using the body part of the mandrel give the bush a few hardish knocks to help lock it in place

Pic 11.Push the body part of the mandrel hard up against the bush and do the grub screw up to lock it in place

Pic 12. And thats one closed end mandrel completed

Pic 13. I made this tool to help me get the sleve out but once it has been loosened off it should all just pull out

Pic 14. This is what it looks like when it has a finished pen on it

I hope this makes it easy to understand how I did it

    Default Closed end mandrel.

Just came back to study the forum after a long absence. I am recovering from several health issues that caught up to me. I have rediscovered an interest in tuning, including pens. I found this post in the new threads. Is it me, or some limitation on my account, as
    I cannot see any pictures.
I also have a fairly complete hobby machine shop and prefer to make my own tools.

Yeah, but.....Some people seem to have been able to see the images. Or were they admiring the Emperors new clothes?
    Perhaps it's a Mac thing.
But I could see the images in the following post (where there was a paperclip icon) and in other posts but there was no paperclip icon in the listing on the index page for this post. Perhaps the termites came and ate it?

The pictures were there in 2012 when the thread was first started but have disappeared since.
