Noice!!!
Like thr inclusion of sapwood.
How did you find the Beefwood to turn? Always find it a dusty pain.
Actually, now I have had a second look and second thoughts that
looks more like an acacia, Lancewood or perhaps Dead Finish.
I don''t see any tell tale evidence of medulolary rays in that timber,
as Beefwood is a Grevillia it should show these.

I think i am going to have to agree with artme in saying i don't think that is beef wood (not that i am and expert) because none of the beefwood i have looks like that
and as for photo tips I have all this fancy gear like light tents and lights but believe it or not if you look at all my photo's either on here or my website you will find most have been taken the same way
1. I use the same piece of cardboard i have used all the time
2. All Photo's are taken during the day and outside
3. I just lay the cardboard in the front yard in the sun and then use my body to shield the sun thus creating a shadow and then just taking my photo's normally and they seem to come out ok ?
hope it helps a bit ?
Cheers Ian

Hi Dave. Photo's are very good !. If you are OK with a little 'critique', then I can see quite a few sanding rings running around the pen, particularly out near the ends. Here is a little clip put out by David "Timberbits" to help with that problem. Sanding the Blanks « TimberBits Blog
Other than that NICE WORK !!I never forget anything I remember !!

looks pretty good
i can also see the marks that pariss pointed out however to me it looks like an uneven finish, after finishing a final CA application i sand lightly with the top 6 micro mesh grades then buff with a white compound on a cloth wheel, seems to get rid of all the lines which show up under bright lights
offered as constructive criticism only
all the best

Just another quick tip re tiny circumference lines in the finish. I did a Gentleman's pen last week for a special order, and when the light was on the final finish, I saw heaps of micro rings around the pen. NOT HAPPY !. Anyway, turned out to be a tiny filing from one of the bushes which had become lodged in the final finish Micro Mesh pad.
I never forget anything I remember !!
