    Default Huon Fountain Pen

Had a return customer ask to have a fountain pen made for him.
He bought a Qld Myrtle fountain pen off me a fair while back, and he gave it to his brother.
Now he wanted one similar for himself, he stipulated that he wanted the same style as his brothers pen, which was a gold Baron.
He also wanted a light coloured Tasmanian timber, I suggested Huon Pine, he was happy with that.
He didnt want a high gloss plasticky finish, so this is what I came up with. I sealed the timber with 4 coats of thin CA, flattened it with 400 w&d, and 0000 steelwool.
Then I gave it a coat of wax, it feels very nice to touch, and has a satin gloss. I hope he will like it.
I have also upgraded the nib to a Heritance that I had in the drawer. He is going to use this pen as his desk pen, he said it will get plenty of use, so I have my fingers crossed it will write nicely for him.

When he comes to pick it up, I will ink it up for him and test it out.

Sweet pen Brad. It just goes to show that you sure don't need to buy $40 pen kits to achieve a spectacular looking pen.
    I never forget anything I remember !!

    Thanks Guys.

The Guy came and collected the pen about 10 minutes ago.
The look on his face was priceless.
When he picked it up and finished looking at it, he said "thats exactly what I wanted ".

He wouldnt let me ink it up for him, he wanted to do it when he got to work.
So I got my fingers crossed it is all good.
Perhaps I should have tested it last night, and cleaned it out to give to him.

    Thanks Ian.

I picked the best Huon blank I had left. Seems to be pretty hard getting the real good stuff.

Excellent work Brad, great to see that you put a satin finish on it to give it a warm timber feel, I might try that method myself if thats the results you get.

I get a few requests for a more natural looking finish than the high gloss plastic look of CA. I always enjoy making these pens, as I dont have much fun going through the many coats routine.

Usually, I use Penetrol to seal the timber, about 4 coats, and then Hut wax.
This time I went another way, I just put coats of CA on the usual way until it just started to build up on the surface, in this case it took 4 coats, then flattened it back, then put the Hut wax on.
I am hoping that once the wax wears off, the CA will keep the timber looking good.
