Ideas need some help
Hi Guys,
I been thinking i want to get in paint a tube then glue opals (probably opal matrix) all over it just real small one and then I want to make up to pen blank size with clear resin so in the end I have an opal pen. My question is how could I bung up the end of the tube so as not to fill with resins? Any suggestion on that idea?

Potato plugs.
Or, you could find a rod the same size as your mandrel & slip the tube over it. You could get fancy and put washers at each end, held in place with blu-tac..
Or... drill a hole in each end of your mould and thread the rod through them with the tube in between...
Or...
(If you use a rod, make sure you use a release agent on it! )

Toni have a look at It's Virgil aka Don Ward's tutorial on casting snake skin blanks on TPS home page. It shows how he seals the ends of with corks and weighs the blanks down with BB shot so they don't float and then glues slices of a throw away blank to the end of the cork. Good tutorial on casting skins but also good ideas on how to seal the tubes.
