Sounds like the ink tank is loose at the joint as you suggest.

I always recommend they refill the tank by removing it from the pen, not by dipping the nib in the bottle. That way the seat is checked every time you refill.

So you could suggest he ensures the tank is seated properly, but it can be a faulty one, so i would just send him a new one. We are only talking about a part worth $1 anyway aren't we?

Thanks, in this case I would not spare if the part was $20 as long as it was a good one, I just hate junky stuff and would never deliberately use it in high end if there was a choice, Thanks, Amos

Like Neil said it is a part that is only a couple of bucks. It also sounds like it isn't firmly seated, that would be the only way air bubbles could get into it unless it wasn't fully in the in when it was drawn in. When you get the pen you will be able to see if any other factors could cause the problem. If it is the part it is an easy replace, touch wood I have not had one fail me as yet. I feel user error is involved.

Amos ,could be the nib is not seated correctly in its housing , the way a fountain pen works is by capillary action ,as the ink is applied to the paper it draws ink to the nib .If ink continues to flow it points to that action not working properly ,if there is any gap between the nib and the plastic then it will allow the ink to run by gravity alone ,so of course too much ink flow. It also points to filling problems as it can suck air when filling from a bottle. I would dismantle the nib section and clean ,(water is fine for cleaning ) Another thing to try is use a cartridge and see if that works correctly ,that will tell you if it is the converter at fault ,if it is leaking at the joint where its pushed onto the feeder ,then that needs to be fixed as well . On some of the fountain pens I have done they also have a spring in the end to keep pressure on the converter to stop it coming loose ,similar to the rollerball set up .
In essence if the converter is not loose where it joins the feeder , then the problem is the feeder and nib assembly . I am sure you will sort it out ,most of us don't test these things before passing them on as we are trusting souls hehe, but even in the best of circles things can go wrong .

Could be any of those things. Could also be that the converter itself may have a split in the casing. You wouldn't think there'd be anything wrong with the section if airbubbles were coming in, unless he didn't have it dipped properly. I prefer people to fill off-pen as well. It's also much cleaner, although you do get a little less writing from the refill.

I had a client with a similar problem, the kit was a sedona and I had left the Spring in the finial cap and it fouled up on the end of the Converter and ink went every where, whipped out the spring and 'Robert's your Mothers brother' Problem solved.
Hope your problem is as easy to fix
