Inside out pen- not everyone cuppa!
HI I have been wanting to have a go at inside out turning and making my own pen finial so i did a pen with both. I know this is not going to be pleasing to everyone but it was fun to try.
Love to know your thoughts even if it a great laugh let me know I won't take an offence give it to me. LOL It was a game so there no offence in it

While I don't think the style will become popular, I think it shows a great deal of skill.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.

Well done on the inside out turning Toni, I think you were really game to try your first one on something so small.
Reckon it's the ugliest pen I've ever seen though. But as you said, it wont be to everyone's taste.Chris

Hello Toni, never heard of inside out, would be interesting to hear how that is done. I bet that pen that we think is not pleasing to look at, will be the fisrst to sell at a market! have had that happen to me, ugliest pen I could think of, sold 1st up! yours is not ugly though, just odd in shape, I think with some experimenting some very pleasing shapes could be got. Gidday no it was not hard so small because I started with a normal pen blank then did the inside out diggout then I quartered it on the bandsaw and reglued it was actually quite fun and easier.

It's easier to quarter the blank first, then glue it back together with PVA and brown paper. It also means you can flip the pieces over first, so that when you flip 'em back after turning the "inside" the grain matches up again.
Good onya Toni, I've done some inverted turning for ornamental doodads, but I'd never, ever have thought of using the method for a pen! That's way off the beaten track.

Very nifty, Toni. Likely no other like it in the world. Could be awkward to write with at first, but awkwardness shouldn't last long.

Excellent work toni, as said before paint the tube the same color.
Certainly thinking outside the square.
Irene's thought was to bead the tube. those little beads they use in jewelery making.Jim Carroll

It certainly is interesting Toni! If I have to have a complaint with it, something needs to be done to the support tube, but other than that *neat*!
I also question whether or not it will be tail heavy, it is still the same weight and seems like it should be less.
Very creative! Thanks for sharing it!

I too, after looking at the Marleyturned site, want to have a go at the inside out turning.
Agree than the tube needs work ... beads, paint or even finished conventionally (ie with wood, very thin) then put inside out around (a bit like the Marley christmas tree).

Gidday the pen is surprisingly balanced. Hubby thought that too but he found he could actually get it to balance on his finger. He was very surprised with it.
The bead idea is great
