Insurance
Can you clever people who regularly do markets tell me how much public liability insurance you pay please? A market near to me is asking for $20,000,000 cover. Is this normal.
Thanks,
Shirley

Shirly ,this is a variable ,up until last year I had 10 million cover ,one of the markets I attend were told by council they had to have all the vendors with 20 million cover, this is a pretty large impost for most market stall holders ,considering the chances of someone getting injured in your stall and at your fault ,now if I was selling guns or explosives I might consider that yes an accident is possible and major injuries possible . I now pay a few dollars extra per week and am covered by the Organisers insurance ,worked out cheaper than a seperate 20 million cover . I'd like to see the market related personal accident claims for a year by all companies and see just how much we getv ripped off, My household insurance throws in public liability at no extra cost . Cheers ~ John
G'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

Insurance
Hi Woodpecker,
Good advice there from Gawdelphus. Probably equally important to have product liability insurance depending on the type of products you make and re-sell.
Happy insuring

shirley i went down this road searching for public liability insurance , i rang my broker ,no good they cant even get it anymore , was given the number for the insuance council to get info of them they told me that AAMI is one of the VERY few available
i got a quote for about $220 a year , the only other i could find was the vic woodworkers one it might be a good one but was abit miffed with their time frame of insurance
its september to september i got told so if you get it now its the same as in september
whereas AAMI was from day of payment for 12mths , i even got told i could pay for it today but have the cover start on the day of the market (forward date it )
well thats my 10 cents worth

Hi Shirley,
Look carefully at the Vic Woodworkers we at the ACT Woodcraft Guild use them and any sanctioned activity for all signed in members is covered by them worth every cent and heck Sept is not far away.
Kind regards Peter.Nil Desperandum

The Insurance.
Hi Shirley,
As Penpal said.
I got my Insurance through " The Victorian Woodworkers Assoc ".
You actually join them & that includes Insurance. I don't need them anymore, so I'm not sure by how much cover you can get.
I memory serves me, I think I paid $175 per Yr. You can pay a bit more & you get their Newsletter.
I Googled " VWA " & it was all there.Regards,
issatree.

Again, thanks for all the advice. AAMI quoted $195. I will check out VWA and will take it from there from there. Seems a lot though, but I guess every possibility has to be covered. John, I will check our household cover too.
Cheers,
Shirley

Here's a thread I started a while ago asking the same thing. I didn't end up going through with it as I posted to sea but might be looking at going down that avenue in the next 12 months
It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.
