Italian gent and friends
I thought I would share a few more pens.
First one is the Princess Pen I mentioned in an earlier post. Had to pick up another Stormy Sea blank to replace the cracked one. This pen took three blanks. Drilled the first the wrong size. Cracked to second. It's see through in places so I used various colours and glitters on the tube. The new owner is absolutely rapt.
Second was meant to be white and gold glitter. The cheap glitter I used bled into the white and it same out cream/ivory. It's a present to the octagenarian widow of my long time boss and mentor. She'd prefer Carlton FC colours but I'm sure she will appreciate this too.
Third is my NGR burl offering. I figured everyone else is sharing their NGR pens so here's mine. It sold on first sight to a neighbour who dropped in while I was taking this photo.
Finally my reason for this post. Forest Oak Italian Jr Gent 2 from GPW. I like the pen but not altogether excited by the shaping. Here's the tale of woes: The tube actually slipped out about 8mm while the glue was drying. Hidden under the newspaper I was using, was an allen key. It was there as a reminder to check the BS bearings, so it's my own fault really. My Italian BIL b/day is in Jan and naturally he was going to get a pen of some kind. I had some short single colour blanks made with leftovers from my tamper handles castings. So I drilled in about 10mm and then sliced off about 7mm. Flattened and squared the resulting holey disks back to about 5-6mm. Parted off the timber with no tube inside, turned off about 7mm of excess timber to reveal around 15-16mm of tube using the three disks as measures, and glued to whole lot together. I had originally left too much timber on the cap tube, so when I sanded the cap end square it came out over size. It's tolerable but annoying. It's also deliberately not too noticeable in the pic.
It would have been easier to turn the dud blank clean off the tube and start again but as an exercise it was interesting.

These trials and tribulations are what make us better at our craft, finding an answer when we thought all is lost just makes the end result all worth while.
Well done on a nice set of pens Doug

Very nice work on all of them Doug. Your BIL will be happy with the Italian pen. I use Sika glue for the tubes but put a clamp over the ends to stop that tube slide out as it dries.

Thanks for the comments guys.
Yep, it's these near disasters that teach us things and improve our skills all right.
I use Sika too. Never thought of the need to clamp before - until now. How does clamping handle the excess foaming ?
Not sure about the Jr Gent for my BIL cos he's got fairly small hands, but I've got three weeks to decide. This pen should sell with the espresso crowd if I change my mind.
