    Default Jnr. Majestic zig-zag

For want of a better description, I won this blank on the Eagle site, I know Jeff Powell made the blank, but I do not know the wood yet! but will find out. The Jnr. Majestic is more to my liking as far as weight is concerned. Your opinion is valued. Amos(ps-hopefully I remeber the photos!!!!)

Bugger ! have you got any plain old wood that us mere mortals can aspire to lol! my first impression was it looked "snake" like hehe! most of us worry about stuffing a kit, you have to worry about stuffing a blank Another of your "collector" editions ,beautiful pen as usual that you display . It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

    Hey Amos,

Very nice work, I can't help with the timber ID but it looks pretty special.

    Nice work as always Amos.

That's an interesting bit of segmenting work.

Here's the answer re the wood--
That's Maple/Mahogany/Staghorn Sumac. Probably you are not too familiar with the sumac. There is Staghorn Sumac, and Poison Sumac. The poison one if you touch it it gives you a bad rash, worse than poison ivy. The Staghorn Sumac has a berry cluster on it, although it doesn't look like berries, it looks more like a furry flower in the shape of a Russian dome roof. Basically, you see the bush and it has these on it, it's safe, otherwise stay away. The bush averages only a 2" diameter trunk, although you can hunt around and find them 4-10 " which are rare and the record was something like a 34" trunk, but the bottom line is it is more of a shrub than a tree and grows in cluster groups. I see it a lot along the sides of the highways. The wood color is amazing. It is not commercially harvested, that wouldn't be economical at all. I just find my own and cut it. It only grows in the North too. The growing area is large, but it only grows in a certain Zone, so if I go south into the next state, they don't have it, but if I go east or west they do, and they do to the North but only for a few hundred miles. I use it a lot in my intarsias.
    That is from Jeff. Amos

Another nice one, Amos. I still like the dragon though. You can keep that poison sumac. Serious nasty stuff there. Bush hogged through some about ten years ago and wound up at the doctor's office.

BlankBrain, just look at my earliest threads, and you will see that I only improved a bit at a time and with a lot of input from the people on this site, in fact it took me ages to get CA finish right, only when DJ posted a full tutorial on it ,did I finally get the finish right. Amos
