Looks good from where I sit!

I clicked the thumbnail, went to full page then magnified. Grain is easy to see and the finish is first clas!!

Thanks guys for your kind words, this is the first pen I have made in over three months. It is sure good to get back in the saddle again. With moving and weather, only have just got the lathe to where I live. No band saw, so my trusty Japanese pull saw is working over time . It is nice to be back amongst my other family. Therre will be more photos to come as I get back into my therapy full time.

Yes Amos after I saw the tutorial post for JTT I thought I would oblige and keeping them flat.

Thanks Arthur for kind words, yes if you enlarge the thumb nail the grain stands out well. It was a bugger to fill, the grain was so open on it, but the work to do it was worth it.

HazzaB, I got it through the exotic wood buy done by Russell (Boomaranginfo) did a while back. Got the Irish Bog Oak as well as English Bog Oak.

Hope this is a help to you

    Cheers
    Darren

Thanks for the comment Rum Pig. I was nervous about turning it considering the age of it, but found it to be quite stable. The only thing is the openess of the grain, when sanding the dust remained in the grain which I then remove with a stippling brush from an art supply store. I cut the bristles down to about 1cm and find it stiff enough to remove the dust residue by running the lathe. Have to use a medium CA to fill the grain first, otherwise you would use nearly a bottle of thin CA. Looking forward to seeing you first Irish when you make it.
