You Be The Judge
Which on would you prefer as a customer?
The Satin finish with a soft warm wood look and feel or the Gloss finish with a hard cold plastic look and feel?

Les, I go the other way. I like gloss on pens - but not on other wood products.

"If a man is after money, he's money mad; if he keeps it, he's a capitalist; if he spends it, he's a playboy; if he doesn't get it, he's a never-do-well; if he doesn't try to get it, he lacks ambition. If he gets it without working for it; he's a parasite; and if he accumulates it after a life time of hard work, people call him a fool who never got anything out of life."

I like both, variety is the spice of life they say. There will always be people that will like either or IMO.
Cheers
Tony.

I like the satin but would think that the general public would go for gloss if given a choice.

As can be seen from the previous posts, it appears it is about 50/50. I too like both of your pens, but I tend to leave the gloss finish on mine. My thoughts are that shiny things attract people's attention.
It would be hard not to like any of your pens Les.

Les I like the gloss. Has that 'look at me effect'.

Bright and shiny seems to attract more attention and sales , seems a lot of folk equate shiny to new in the case of burls I do think the gloss finish does enhance and protect the wood a bit more ,at least with CA ,cheers ~ John
(there are always exceptions though )G'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

i personally prefer the gloss, and the few pens i have done in the past with a satin look have either taken ages to sell or are still sitting in the cabinet looking for a home
everyone is different and it takes all kinds to make the world go round
very nice character in that piece of burl though
is it the same pen on different sides, one side buffed and the other not???

I prefer the satin for pens. But I still make pens with a gloss finish.

Both finishes look great but would suspect the buying
public would pick up the gloss - pure attraction.

Pepsi ran an ad campaign over here years ago where the set up tables with two unlabelled cups on the table, one had Coke in it and the other had Pepsi. The Pepsi was served very very cold and the Coke was warm and flat. Unsurprisingly the vast majority of people said that the Pepsi tasted better and everyone was amazed when the reveal showed that Pepsi tasted better than Coke.
That's the first thing I thought of when you described the Satin as "warm wood look" and the Gloss as "hard cold plastic"
I have both but prefer the gloss. It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.
