Just had to find out ..................
What was inside the once fired M2 .50 Caliber 706.7 gr (45.8 g) projectiles that I have been making Parker and Cross style nibs with.
I couldn't find any info on what the core material was and it looks like a solid steel core crowned with lead.

Found that the core is carbon steel with a lead crown.
The FMJ is brass rather than copper.

The website I posted before shows that there are a great many projectile types dependent on what is being shot at. It's certainly long range with a snipper have used it effectively at 2,430 meters (2,657 yards) against an unsuspecting recipient. Certainly better used as a pen!!
