Default Kitless FP in Greenstone Mallee Burl

Here is my latest creation. I used a nice piece of Greenstone Mallee Burl that came from Euge
Cap threads are 12mm, pen diameter is 15mm, pen length is 145mm, capped is 155mm.
The timber was given a couple of coats of CA, then some Ubeaut traditional wax.
Its got a #6 JoWo nib, and a handmade stainless steel clip.

Thanks mate. I am turning them on a GPW Midi Wood lathe that I fitted with variable speed.

    Thanks Peter.
I thought it fitting to use green for the Greenstone Mallee ( never heard of this timber before, maybe Euge will let us know the story behind it when he sees this )
I think the green works, what are others thoughts ?

I have had a number of variations in Brown Mallee from various locations the variations have been in colour (light to dark grain, scribbly to broad blacks) I used to look out for timber from near the Sth Australian Border in Brown Mallee.

Green is new to me but always wonderful to see new.

That's a "yes" from me. The green, especially being a darker shade of green, looks great. As does your usual brilliant work with kitless pens

Wonderful turning and most interesting too Brad.
Finish is first class too and the green resin fittings complement the name "greenstone" a stone/mineral associated with gold mining in WA (ie Goldfields) where this mallee comes from.
Thanks for sharing and congrats on another fine and interesting pen Brad. Nice gradation in colours in this wood.

I am familiar with the brown and red Mallee burls, but first time I had heard of Greenstone Mallee was when I received these blanks from Euge.

Thanks Gary. I had these pieces of green resin spare, it was the blank that I cut the wrong lengths when I was making the green kitless rollerball, and had to change to the green chip blank. It didn’t go to waste.

Thanks Euge, and double thanks for sending that great blank.
Yes the colour graduation in the blank is quite stunning, not the abrupt change that you ussually see.

I did some googling on the subject, I discovered that the “Greenstone “ name is all to do with the areas that it grows rather than the actual colour.
