Default Is this Laser Inlay or Segmented ?

    Hi All,

Had a couple of things on the back burner as I have been kind of busy but slowly starting to work through some of them and making some happen.
Here is a couple of Sierra's made using a couple of different timbers one is Ironbark but I am not sure what the other one is? it came from Mapleman and is light yellowish with a slightly waxy feel and very hard.

So from Block to drilled and turned blank, then to laser and cut before then being glued together and turned. It was then sanded using Abranet before then having several coats of CA applied applied again using abranet then MM before then being buffed phweee !!
Little bit more work to be done before I am entirely happy with the whole process but came out reasonably good for a first attempt.

Now that we have got that all out of the way here are the photographs.

    Thanks
    Tony

I like the color combination of the woods. I have to ask though, what is lasered??? How many stripes around the pen are there??? That design can be made many different ways. The easiest is with a tablesaw or bandsaw. I do mine on the lathe with a router only because I put more than 4 stripes. Thanks for showing.

    Hi JT,

Lasered did I say Lasered ? I agree JT both timbers came out looking pretty good although I do have a preference for the darker one which I think matches the kit choice too. There is 5 in total of the narrower strips around the pen. I laser cut the strips from two different pieces of timber on the rotary and then swapped the parts from one blank to the other )
This way is very easy if you have the laser, and then its like putting a laser cut inlay blank together

    Thanks
    Tony

great looking pens Tony, i think i prefer the darker of the 2, but both are very worthy

as to segmented or not... i think it falls into the same boat as mine

    all the best

Firstly, nice pens, I like the darker one also.

I would call them segmented, the same result ( or similar ) could be done a number of ways. I would do mine on the tablesaw, because that is what I have. I wouldnt call mine a tablesaw inlayed blank.
But since you created it, you can call it what you like .

Those are both very nice. I can't decide which I like better.
