New Lathe Purchase (Help Needed)
Hi All,
I have bought a new Lathe from another forum member in the Market Place (Metal Lathe)
https://www.woodworkforums.com/f223/u...nation-165339/
Thanks John (Gawdelplus) for taking the time to check it out with me and for giving me a few pointers and demo on your metal lathe as too what I am going to be able to do that is once I get a little practice.
I can see so many uses for this Lathe with my pen turning and other related components and the big bonus is it also has a mill attached too. So again lots of experimenting to be had with this also and again could come in very handy with my pen turning adventures also.
At this stage I will be driving out with my trailer to pick up the lathe this coming Saturday morning hopefully, and was wondering if anybody would be available to assist with loading and unloading of the lathe. I would be leaving my place Shailer Park around 9:30am / 10:00am bound for Redbank Plains returning to Shailer Park for unloading. Should not take too long to get the job done.
If you are local and available to give a hand please let me know ASAP.
Cheers
Tony.

Hi Tony,
I have been at the stage you are at now and know what you are going through.
The possibilities with a metal lathe are endless, throw a mill in the mix and there are a lot more.
You will find all sorts of things that you will be able to make for your pen turning and you will find that you use it at least as much as your wood lathe, or as in my case ven more.
Approach it with an open mind and a sense of adventure, and most importantly don't let the machine(s) intimidate you.
Sorry I am too far away to physically help you, but if I can be of help with advice etc please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thanks Fred,
I sure am looking forward to setting it all up and having a good play and most of all experimenting and trying some different things. After watching John the other day using his mini lathe I was amazed at how easy it was to turn some of the more difficult blanks he had and all turned with a great finish straight off the tooling. I have been around wood working and other machines basically all my life so no intimidation around machines although I do give them the respect they deserve.
I will be sure to sing out if I get stuck with anything though much appreciated
Cheers
Tony.

Thanks Greg & Trev,
Looks like we are all set now. Much appreciated guys, loading and unloading should be a breeze now with your help. I have pm'd my details and will update with you both later in the week. Look forward to catching up with you both too and having some good old woodie/pen chat too, back at the shed
Talk soon and catch up with you both on the weekend

Lathe Pick Up Done & Dusted !!
Big Thanks Guys !!
Unfortunately Greg was not able to make it today as he had to attend to another very important matter which was certainly a matter that required his attention. I hope works out well Greg.
Big thanks to Sean who is the member of the forum I bought the lathe from. Not only did I get a great deal and lots of extras for my money, but Sean had it already to go when Trevor (Rumnut) and I rocked up to to take it to its new home.
Once all loaded a quick call to John (Gawdelplus) and he was on his way to my place to help with the unload. Once we arrived at my place a coffee was in order and then it was back to unloading. We managed to get the lathe and everything else out of the trailer but none of us fancied the lift onto the stand. Quick trip to Johns to pick up a block & Tackle a little bit of additional support to the timber beam by Trevor and we were ready to make the lift, the easy way
Here are some photos during the lift and once the lathe was all bolted back together and all nice and clean. I wonder how long that will last
Great day, and guys thanks heaps for your help much appreciated and Greg best of luck and well wishes to Shep.

All good John,
All the other bits and pieces we thought were missing were all located in the top lift up lid of the toolbox, Sean had put them all in there before we got there.
Just need some lessons now from the master
Cheers
Tony.

Looks great Tony
I'd think about putting the drawers on the other side though, you'll need to open the door to change the gears.Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new
