Hard to see your inlays ... it looks to me as though you have diagonal as well as vertical inlays? Good fun isn't it ... I've sarted collecting the slides off my old floppy discs to do some more - a bit thicker than the soft drink can I think.

Much better photo .. looks good. I like the random .... try the 'slide' off a floppy disc, the extra thickness gives a bit more oompf ... maybe both thicknesses, can and slide for variety! I have got a sheet of copper than I'm going to have a go with too.

    G'day Toni,
Much better pic. I can only imagine what it look like in person. Did you run into any problems during sanding where the wood wanted to sand down further than the metal?

no that was not the problem the black off the aluminum wanted to go through the wood grains though. so i dont think it would work to well on a light wood though
    bye

yep my mum got some copper for me too but my daughters are horrified with me. They are mad cash metal people. and copper at the moment is worth a lot of money so they are horrified like at the moment to get air conditioners from the dump to pull them to bits that gets them $15 for there efforts. Last trip they made themselves $400 so they are bit concerned about me taking there treasures to turn.

I had better hide away my roll of copper foil then .. I teach my students how to sew it onto fabric as an embellishement!!

I would never have though there was that much copper in air conditioners .. do fridges have the same? Good on them (your daughters) for using their initiative too

none in fridges, they only get the grills around the edge, they bring home wire, and they bring home radiators.

They do aluminum i go to the dump they hop out the car armed with a magnet to check if it is steel or aluminium. they are getting really efficient at it. They are working on saving to buy a boat or a four wheeler. Caitlyn says after the boat bought she is buying her own lathe. LOL

It came up looking good, Toni! I like the idea of curving the laminate around. Will have to give copper a try, too...

What wood? Finish? Was the metal filings staining the wood a major headache? You should know by now that we we like to hear the juicy gossip here.

(At the moment I'm still cursing at CD's. I am going to get one made, come hell or high water! I'm onto about my 3rd or 4th attempt at gluing up and oddly, despite my first thoughts, CA seems to be the glue for the job! To misquote someone: "I am a bloke! I have a shed and sharp tools! No little bit of plastic is going to beat me..." )
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

Gidday Skew, I think the wood is lace sheoak but it was the wood that we got in a swap from Dai Sensai that time. I used that.
Finish CA glue. Yes the metal did want to make it a stain but I metho between each sandpaper grit. I don't know how you go with paler wood.

Looking good Toni I like your variation and what Laurie started

If you can all hang off it my turn for the May pen swap material. I have an abundance of sheet copper so will put some in each swap
