Cypress From Bunnings
Hello to all. Happy Easter. Yesterday as i was purchasing some items from Bunnings these fence pickets caught my eye, and I said to myself, "what beautiful pens", photo no. 1,
So , having purchased them, cut them up into blanks, photo 2, I proceeded to turn them Photo 3, and the result are photos 4 and 5. Finished with EEE, Ca, EEE and Shellawax. Amos

Nice work, and a nice spur of the moment pick-up with the wood

Very nice mate I did a few out of Cypress myself. When we moved into this house they had just added a room on at the back of the house and they were kind enough to leave quite a few off cuts from the flooring and when I saw them it was the first thing that came to my mind as well mmmmmmmmmmm.................I see some nice pens in there and wouldn't you know it they were the first pens to sell on my first day at the markets selling my pens. I am going to have to go to Bunnings and see if I can get some more.
Regards
Froggie

Those colours were retained to create a top pen, love those creams and browns, way to go.Was it brittle to work with?Who said we need exotics.

Amazing Amos. So as a matter of interest, how much did it end up per blank? Can't say I've ever seen fence pickets like those, amazing grain, too good for a fence. Well done

dai sensai,
Get down to bunnings now then, I just purchased the cypress pickets to actually make a picket fence. The grains and patterns were almost too good to paint over on nearly every picket. Must be their current supplier." I need direction for perfection."

Nice job Amos .
We have cypress floor boards at home and have often had the thought that some of the more figured boards would make really nice pens . Dont think I would be too popular if I start ripping up the floor though.
Might have to drop into my local bunnings to see if they have some of those pickets instead
cheers

The timber shown is callitris glauca.
Stocked in Bunnings in Vic for fence pickets & posts.
Terrific grain, smells nice, hard but a bit brittle & splits a bit too readily. Really nice to machine, cuts really smoothly with hand tools.
The beatings will continue until morale improves.

Nice find and great looking pen you wound up with and more to come
I take it that that is a 1C kit
Bunnies will wonder why everyone is turning over the pickets looking for the colour and grain

Thanks fellas, the kit is 1C, and working with the grain was soft and easy. I have attempted another one across the grain but am starting another thread because I think I may get some "good" advice, the pickets were$2.95 each and there were about 22 pens in it i.e. about 44 blanks for $2.95, haven't cut up the other one yet, might need it for a fence!!! NO! only kidding. Amos

What a waste!
Wood for fencing?
The only good thing about fences are they stop the neighbours dog short as it chases me off their property when I'm nicking... errrmm... I mean "admiring" their firewood pile.
