    Default Light tent 1

    Attachment 52044

Attachment 52045This is my light tent basic frame made from under one length of 20 mm conduit, four tees 20 mm,four elbows 20 mm.Conduit electrical ie is sold in about 12 feet lengths,I cut it in half and it fits in the car easily.

I used a conduit cutter cause I have one it cuts on the same principle as a hand ratchet lopping shear. You could use a hacksaw I did for 30 yrs before the cutter was thought of just clean the cut after.

Using pic 1 as a reference and from left to right are.

    legs x2
    joiners/spacers x3 each 50 mm long
tees x2 to fit 20 mm conduit(I had inspection,if you buy ask for plain)
elbows x2 to fit 20 mm conduit
top joining pieces x2 each 290 mm long
    elbows same as x2
    tees same as x2
    joiner /spacers x3 each 50 mm long
    legs x2 355 mm long

Base is foam sheet mine 500 mm by 472 mm why because it was scrap and free and light as a feather.

    Construction sequence.

Cut the conduit to length,I also marked in pencil 20 mm from each end as this is how much nearly goes into the elbows and tees. You can tell if is in all the way to keep everything even,if you do not it will appear that way.
Assemble in this order from one end and then the other.
elbow to 50 mm spacer to tee piece facing the right way that is the centres of all tees facing each end and the elbow at right angles down on both ends to accomodate the legs.
Sequence then is elbow spacer tee spacer tee spacer elbow.
Repeat for the other end so the tees face centres.
Use the two joiner spacer top pieces, fit them in one end first then join them both at the same time to the other end.
Measure from the top only the centre for the four of 20 mm holes and punch gently with a pencil then I used a hole saw stopping when the drill in the centre touches the waste board under and that way the hole is not right through( a good thing to do)

The second picture shows the finished so far assembled tent that gives you a 360 by340 by320 mm high tent ,light to handle ready to cover or not.

The next pic shows the cut off end of the conduit if you put it carefully in the lathe and cut a tapet of only a degree or two wider at the outer end it make a tool to fit and remove starters from flurescent lights, much nicer than have one break, crumble in your fingers and some are recessed so it allows you to access them without taking the fitting apart.

Have fun ask questions,be carefull with your own and check the sizes after all I had to to make mine, you can tailer make if you choose or not.

Take care Peter. The Pic below is Picture 1

    Default Light for the Tent

I had a Bunnings 150 watt quartz light mounted on a tripod to use in the roof space so I ripped the reflector out then all the quartz holder etc out.
Bought a Nelson ELQ Superior Compact Flurescent lamp compact long life from Bunnings cost bit over 26 bucks.

I cut out a 70 mm hole in the cast aluminium section in one end, made a mirror finish reflector out of an extinct light fitting eased that in,squeezed the lamp an Edison Screw type in the lamp housing it is a firm fit.Fitted an Edison Screw lamp holder on the lamp. This lamp gives 48 watt consumption and equivalent 240 watt incandescent lamp with none of the excess heat problems. The kelvin rating is 5000 degrees kelvin.Bunnings have this type that is the original fitting on a small stand for nine dollars plus cheap enough to strip because quartz will burn things they run so hot.

I now have the tent, the lamp, have car carpet for the endless background, progress will follow,I will use a pillow slip for a diffuser or get SWMBO to make the cover from a sheet.

    G'day Peter,
Great instructions on the tent. I think even I could build one. One ignorant question though, is that only for holding the lights, or do you add three walls?

    Cheers,

    Rick

    Default Rick

The light sits on a tripod at one side of the tent. The Camera on a tripod in front.

The tent frame and base on a stand,I have to fit a quick attach and release for the background.

The diffuser is double thickness parachute silk type pillow slip laid over the top and in front of the lamp.

Reflector on the opposite side of light foam white plastic stuff, still a work in progress.

The tent is simple light can be used 200 ways, got upholstry sample swatches used them, got thirty of them given me when I bought two bags of offcut leather pieces in a variety of colours etc today.

The guy comes from the back of a long way west and will bring me some Emu eggs next trip home. Take care Peter
