No more Lines
I have solved my problem of marks & lines in my CA finish thanks to the advice I received from you guys, . Got some 000 steel wool, and sanded length ways etc etc, and finish on all my pens is absoloutley perfect & flawless. The only drama I'm now experiencing at the moment is turning down to size a very tight Coolabah Burl blank. I'm getting major chipout as I get close to finished dimentions. I have already destroyed one blank which basically exploded off the tube . I think I'm going to have to get it down to the finished size using 80 grit paper, then go from there. Is that what you guys do ?. Yes, my turning chisles are sharp Thanks for all your help. This site is great

Nicely done Mate
Hey Pariss
Well they are some nice pens and I gald you sorted out the lines and your photos look good as well. With the blow out it could of been a number of reason one being that the blank had a crack or split in it somewhere that you couldnt see could of been caused by a number of things over heating the blank when drilling out or it many have happened during the turning. Did you have the tool rest nice an close to the blank when turning it down these are just a number things that could caused the blank to fly apart it could of been the blank its self we cant win them all it would be nice if we could

Sometimes with burls you need to soak with thin CA to hold it together as it gets close to size , I mostly take the ends down at a steep angle like about 45 degrees before I start on the main body of the blank. this tends to stop the ends chipping out ,at least near the bushes . And Sandpaper is definately a turning tool lol. Cheers John
G'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

You should be happy with that, they're looking great now. Isn't it nice when they come up with that smooth glassy finish.
