Mackay Cedar Reel Seat
I got a chance to play with this Aussie timber from Troy this last week and to try out my new SS bushings thanks to Fred..
The wood turned extremely easy (similar to our cedar) except for one minor problem ... I kept sneezing my fool head off.
Finished with 4 coats of Med CA and the pic does not show the depth of the character in the wood.
I also made a new handle out of Red Fir Bark rings and this pic shows all the beetle holes and tracks that I filled with Tru-Oil and coffee grounds and I will sand down in a few days.

Thank you fellows.. ..
If anyone is interested this is how the journey begins with Red Fir bark and ends up as reel seats, fly rod handles and/or pens.
Some of this bark is up to 4" thick but most is around 2".
The holes are beetle tracks and is really hard to fill the voids as CA doesn't stick to well in the black goo left behind.
If you look closely you can see that there are three layers of different colors and when you get lucky you get a ring with all three
This is what it looks like after being assaulted with a 1 5/16" hole saw.
End results before going to the disk sander in hopes of maybe 30% - 40% being usable as rings.
I've done the same with Pine Bark. Just need to let it dry really well or you'll have pitch all over everything.
