Mackay Cedar Thanks Troy
I finally got through making my tools and getting them ready to ship so I had a bit of free time in the shop or as you say inn the shed, I want to thank Troy for sending me such a bountiful package of Australian Timbers, I got two turned but only decent pictures of a piece of Mackay Cedar wrapped around one of my favorite kits the Dayacom Elegant Beauty, Unfortunately I;m a better pen turner than a photographer so here is the pictures of my cross cut Mackay cedar on an Elegant Beauty I tried to capture the chatoyance of the wood but couldn't even get a decent shine line. it's finished with 7 coats of thin CA and 3 coats of medium, wet sanded through 2000 grit and polished with Novus Plastic Polish, the thing does have a beautiful gloss to it. I also did a Black Titanium Long click pencil which I just found out about and got 6 before they were gone. This is the first time I;ve had to make pens in several months, my Woodchuck tools are keeping me very busy, but I still remember the basics,
with out further BS here are the pictures of the first pen from my wonderful package
Please feel free to render advice and comments on the work, I know the pictures suck.
Thanks
Ken Ferrell

Lloyd it' had no effect at all, in fact I didn't even wear my respirator, I thought it would be similar to the Red Cedar we have up here in the eastern US, but it's a completely different wood, no odor and a bit tighter grain, also not as oily, our cedar is actually a Juniper. and it will cause a reaction on some folks but is smells so nice in the shop.

Excellent work Ken you have done the blank proud.
Have you ever tried the WOP finish, I think the cedar would really lift itself right out with an outstanding shine
