    Default made a few today

back into making a few pens , i have not had much time or desire lately to make pens .
very depressing here on farm still ( and will be for a long time ) cleaning up and working on machinery thanks to the floods .
very depressing because of not only the damage but the run of bad luck we have been having on farm since the flood .
we went from flood to no rain for 2 months and watched what was left of the crops dieing because we were unable to irrigate thanks to the flood damage to infrastructure ( repairing of that held up by the powers that be ).then i spent last tuesday night fighting a fire 2 farms up the road. pretty good going flood drought and fire all in 2 months ( boss rekons next its either another flood or the black plague ).
then wednesday the bosses son lost his favourite dog ( drown in the river )which cut him and his mother up pretty bad . mainly been fixing stuff that the insurance has written off but we can not replace , currently working on the kenworth prime mover , when thats done its onto the acco .
anyway enough of that dribble .

whoops the pictures have come up in the wrong order you can work it out , at least the middle one should be correct .
    made a few pens .
    2 tritons and a sedona .
green one is " wasabi peas " the lathe ran a little hot making that one .
    next is "faux sugilite "
and the last is a sedona in " marinara sauce "

That's bloody tough Texx, but you know, it could be worse - the DOZER could show up in the local pub! Or perhaps that might be a good thing.....

You farmboys, and chaps like Weissy, are the bloody backbone of this incredible country.

I used to have a business relationship with a crowd in Stanthorpe, and was a regular visitor. I was doing pro-photography in those days, and couldn't wait to get out into the bush to blow a bit (a lot) of film. Climbed The Pyramid a few times, Bald Rock. Never quite got out your way, but always wanted to. As I recall Sunset N.P. isn't to far from you (?). I just love hanging around farms and farm people. The smells, the machinery, the fantastic old sheds & barns, buggered old cars and trucks, peeling paint on corrugated iron (YEAH! big favourite). Mate, it's all the stuff you prolly take for granted, and possibly even gives you the shights!

Now I'd better get back on track before Mum & Dad come and belt me - nice pens sport!

Hang in there - you buggers always have.

Regards from not quite in the Biggest Smoke, but far enough out for sanity, and plenty far away from Coffs Harbour (where my old man grew up and retired to)

i dabbled a fair bit in photography myself years ago and old buildings was one of my favs in mono , still have my darkroom gear but dont use it .
i have one lonely trophy from kodak
long way back when i lived in the septic tank ( sorry people ) they call brisbane i would nick off at every chance i got up into the rain forests early in the day before the tourists lobbed up and while the dew was still around .
then digital got cheaper i did one of the single most stupid things i have ever done and traded ( no bloody gave away ) my 35mm gear for a digital ( non slr )which at the time was a mid range camera since then i have lost interest in photography altogether .
i had a nikon FE2 and a full set of gear metz flash ,power winder ,bulk film loader for my mono , nice set on lenses .i did some shots for the stanthorpe border post news paper i was their texas correspondent for a few years , also got one picture in the sydney morning herald .
i mainly did mono prints and colour trannies .
did a few weddings hated that never did anymore of those .
always wanted to have a crack at some ansel adams style medium and large format landscapes but i never got rich enough.

    Nice pens there texx

Sorry to hear about all the troubles up there, sounds like things can only get better.

Had bit of rain down here as well, more rain in the first 2 months of 2011 than in the whole of 2006!

basically the boss just keeps saying " at least it can only get better from here " trying to get the bank to see it his way is a bit tougher though .
the other thing he has said a lot is that if anyone brags or gloats in front of him that they are having a good run or a good year he just might smack em in the chops , and thats not like him at all .
he is under his doctors watchful eye the last few weeks , blood pressure problems .
his son and i are doing most of the work outside and he spends half the day in the office on the phone ( very very necessary though )fighting with the insurance mob , the gluberment , the bank , the rip off your water allocation mob ,the local shire and others i cant think of at the moment .

    Nice pens

Sorry to hear about the troubles
But those same thoughts are what made me say 'no' to my old man when he asked if I wanted to take over the farm. Given he didn't want to do it either but he had no choice.

I'd offer to come up and help out but what you need is beyond me.

thanks very much for that , but we probably dont need help ,we rekon about 2 years poking along and we will getting back to normal , except for the soil problems they are going to take some time to fix . we have found out the hard way that flood stuffs good soil ,
what we need most is just a change of luck for a while so just a few things go right .
funny thing is the boss is a big believer in karma and he helps people out left right and center and always has and i cant understand why he deserves this last few hands he's been dealt .
one other thing the boss is saying ( talk about a positive thinker ) he say's well if nothing else we have learnt a hell of a lot from this , and he is right we have learnt volumes.

    Default Wasabi Peas

    Hello Texx
Thank you for sharing you beautuiful work on the forum. I am interested in the colour of the Wasabi Peas. Is named after the peas due to the colour? It also looks very much like Chinese Jade.
    Regards
