Manchurian Pear burl & Trustone
I picked up a nice little stash of Manchurian Pear last week and one of the sticks had a very small burl on it. Not quite big enough for a complete pen but enough to be worth having a play with. I drilled and glued it then turned down to a bit bigger than finished diameter then trimmed off the ends back to the tube, added the purple trustone sections and turned to finished dimension. I think it would have looked better on a gold kit rather than the gun metal but that's all I had in stock here
It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

Nice work, like the burl, never seen that one before.
Agree that the gold kit would have added that extra touch.

Very nice looking pen indeed. My choice would have been silver not gold. Over all I do like the way you have got that stunning effect. Well done.

What started out as a shortcoming of the blank (being too short) has resulted in a very desireable pen, due to a bit of smart thinking on your part.
Well done.Brad.

Thanks team for the high fives. Neil, I hadn't heard of a gall before so I checked them out. I think you might be right on it being a gall and thanks for broadening my knowledge
