I think the difficulty may lie in the drilling of the hole for the tube ,could be done with patience I suspect. I think Neil (dai sensei ) has made one from hard coral , and that took a lot of work and a dremel with diamond cutters to rough out ,then lots of sanding, not sure how he drilled it ,possibly a carbide drill at slow speeds . If you are really keen I have some offcuts of marble you could try out , I just have not got around to that side of things .too many projects as it is hehe , cheers ~ John

Texx
Rekon you will need something like your member. Diamond to cut it. What about a diamond tip saw to cut to size. Will take a lot of work and a lot of cutting fluid to keep it cool.

Big job coming up. Can the guy who cuts it also drill it? Is marble harder than tungsten? I have no idea. It will be a good experiment.

I have turned stone and coral, but using diamond tools. I drill with diamond coring drills, drilling vertically and using water down the hole, using a small squeeze bottle. After it is all dry again I epoxy in the tube, with high strength epoxy, then let is set for a week to ensure I have full strength.
I then place on lathe and hit it with a grinder with diamond blade and lathe on slow, the finish shaping with a dremmel with a diamond blade and the lathe a little faster (~900). All the time using the squeeze water bottle to ensure it all stays wet, otherwise you will stuff your diamonds, and yes it goes everywhere.
You can then use decent graded sandpaper, but it does depend on the rock you are doing, the sandpaper must be harder than the rock. Then rather than micromesh, I use diamond polishing discs with very fine grades made for stone.
After that you can polish with wax, CA, whatever takes your fancy.
