Mother of Pearl
First time this particular pen, mother of pearl, I really like it, and have failed to truly capture its beauty on camera. Once again finished as per the Abalone pen posted yesterday. Amos

Vey nice. I have to try one of those one of these days. Quick questions - do you break the corners somehow before you start turning it? Does it chip much? Is it essential to use a really sharp tool?
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.

Al, unlike the blanks that come from Rick, (they come beautifully prepared-ends milled and ready to use). these blanks need milling before you start. and remember to use 50A bushings, one clip end larger than the tip end.
Turning can be tricky if you are not used to it, I use a large bowl gouge, some use a skew, I tried a smaller size gouge and it started gripping and gouging when it shouldn't, (try it at the beginning when a small gouge in the material can be dealt with). Also sometimes I find going in one direction is easy and the opposite direction the tool trys to dig in, so I "go with the flow" of it also. hope that helps, Amos

background
Hey woodenink try using a black or Nuteral Grey to dark Grey for the background with a diffused light ( bounce the flash of a white card ) .Just a thought because it's such a beautiful pen you might as well take the best picture you can .
insanity is a state of mind if you don't mind it does not matter.

Amos,
Wow, I don't know which sets off which, the kit or the blank. Whichever, that pen is top notch. I would love to see it in person to appreciate the colors. Thank you for the compliments on the blanks, they are much appreciated.
Cheers,
Rick

Rick, I am in the Electronic service business, and I know quality, and I know service when I see it or get it, in this case I was just stating the facts of the matter, and it has been my pleasure to receive both service and quality. Amos

I got to thinking that it would be really cool to build a pen out of an old mother of pearl inlaid guitar neck. You could even file down the frets to smooth, and you'd have these nifty brass slivers.
Now, who's been to a 'the Who' concert recently? I'm not willing to cut the neck off one of mine for a pen. Yet...heh
Beautiful pen, btw!"If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried." - Stephen Wright
