You may be interested to know that today (7/10/2011) the 200 year old Moreton Bay Fig Trees are being cut down by the Newcastle City Council.
There has been much dispute as to why the trees must go and many, many months of legal wrangling to stop it happening. I am sure that a few canny woodworkers could get some of the tree parts and make pens and platters and plaques and all sorts of things to mark the occassion and sell to the thousands of tree lovers who will have lost the trees but would like a keepsake.
The dastardly deed is happening now at Laman Street Newcastle.
Ned.
