    Default Opinions Please

As you may or may not be aware I have been doing some decal pens lately and have been using the Zodiac Sierra from 043 Turning and the has allowed me to put the clip on a different way and the customers have been able to move the clips to whatever position they want therefore not covering up the decal like in the image below but what I would like to know is for those pens that the clips cannot be moved where should I position the clip ? eg around the back so decal can be shown or should I cover the clip ? please tell me what you all think as I need your opinions

Ian you sure you want an answer to this???

I have just done some of these kits and moving the clip I had no problem.

I also align the finished blank and clip with ANY kit prior to assembly.

Its the logo your trying to show not the clip

Yes Ray I am sure I can handle any answers that may come or I would not have asked the question Lol

You haven't answered my question eg with a pen like an Elegant Beauty you do not have the option of moving the clip around to suit (just by unscrewing it) once the top section has been put on that is where the clip stays so do you put it on so when the pen is in the box you see the clip with the logo under it ? OR do you put the clip on so it is opposite to the clip meaning you will not see the logo when the pen is in the box ?

    Cheers Ian

Thought these were Zodiac Sierra's Not Elegant Beauties???

So my comment "Its the logo your trying to promote not the clip" doesn't help or give you my answer.

In all kits I still look at them prior assembly for best position of the clip hidding imperfections OR highlighting then assemble

    Ian,

I do not think there is an easy answer to your question, personally I think the logo is there to be seen however I also think that placing the logo to the back is not the way to go. When I hold a pen I normally hold it with the clip to the front so in my opinion the clip as shown in your first photos is the way I would go.
I do not think the clip detracts from the logo too much.

    Cheers
    Tony.

I re-read your question and now see your dilemma I also would be wondering what to cover the clip with............unless of course you mean putting the logo over the clip itself??

In this case no I would not cover the clip with logo.

Ian, I think it has to be a customer oriented reply, with Logo by itself no clip over it, looks great, but often the pen is laid down with clip to top?? so what does customer prefer?? Amos

My opinion, dont hide the logo. If need be find another way to display the pen (perhaps not in the box)

Some of my pens I dont even put a clip on

My opinion is clip one side, decal the other, when writing with the pen no ones looking at the decal anyway. If the pen is is clipped in ones pocket the decal cant be seen either. If the pen is clipped onto a pocket with the pen on the outside then the decal will be on full display. I cant see the point in putting a decal on if the clip is going to cover part of it, bit like parking a car half in and half out of the garage during a hail storm. So there you have it.

Ian in reply to your 2nd post "re-in the box" like your naval presentation one recently its the logo your showing off not the clip.

If the clip becomes a problem when laying it in the box maybe some alteration is required to the box. OR as I said on the phone and Dave TTC said NO clip at all.

Most folks are right handed, and they hold pens with the clip up and to their right, so I would place it in such a manner that the decal shows with the clip on the right.
My two cents, and of course, if you know the recipient is a south paw, place accordingly.

    My O-pen-yon

I agree with Ed. The decal should be on the side. I just looked at a couple of pens I have souvenired that have decals on them and they are on the right side of the clip (with the nib facing away from you). I an left-handed and when I hold the pen the decal can be clearly seen. Another interesting thing I noticed was that when I put the decal pen down on the table it rests against the clip. With the clip on the side of the decal you can see the decal clearly. EUREKA!!!!

If the clip covers the decal people will not be able to see the finer art work of the decal. If the clip is on the back, you will never see the decal.
