Organising Pen Bushings
Over the long weekend i got sick of the collection of snap lock bags containing an assortment of turning bushings with cryptic labels. So picked up some 1/4" x 4" coach bolts and got out the labeller to sort them out. This also means the bushings can be left in the correct order so you are not forever checking back with the instructions on the correct order of the bushings.

An extremely clever idea. They say that immitation is the sincerest form of flattery so I might have to borrow your idea. I'm thinking of a handsome hardwood base with a row of 1/4" threaded inserts set into it. Thread the studs into these and drop the bushings into place. Not only functional, but attractive as well. Might get to use up some of that wood in my scrap bin for this project. I'd give you a greenie, but I don't know how.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.

Good idea!
But I'll never be that organised. I'm the type that just throws all my bushes loosely into a container and when I turn a kit just pull out bushes until I reckon "Yeah, these'll do the job."

I use 35mm film canisters and they sit in the drawer under the lathe works for me.

Good idea!
I also use those M-F pill reminders. The larger ones even hold the larger bushings. I number the tops of each compartment so that I know the order in which they go on the mandrel.

Amos be very careful. I learnt the hard way. One day I left with out sealing the lid properly and the box got knocked on the floor all the bushes mixed together. I was in a muddle the easiest way i found to fix up my problem was to buy a whole lot of new sets because it was working out expensive using he wrong bushes.
bye Toni

You can always send me the mixed up ones, Toni, and I'll sort 'em out. Might be a few difficulties in getting 'em back to you though...

Thanks Toni, I need to try matts idea or maybe have them on a twist tie inside the box, so if they do fall they would at least be together. Amos
