Osage Orange Take 2
as posted previously with the osage orange pen and pencil set, they came out pretty good
but on having the cigar sitting beside the pencil i decided that the pencil would go better if i put a bit of ebony on each end
raced home last night and into the SHED, grabbed another piece of osage with a nice knot to add character, some gaboon ebony for the ends
not sure if i did this bit the correct way but it worked no worries
i cut a couple of short pieces of ebony and trimed the osage to the required length, i then proceeded to drill all the pieces, i glued the tube into the osage after this was dry i glued the ebony on each end, the blank finished up looking great so off to the disk sander to clean up the ends and onto the lathe
it takes a lot longer to type this story than tell it but please keep reading it is worth it
turned up a treat, 3 coats of medium CA and about 8 coats of thin CA, micro mesh with the 5 finest pads, brasso polish, and a quick hit on the buffing wheel with Sutton Tools white buffing compound, spectacular finish
over to the work station to get out a gold pencil kit, WHAT NO GOLD KITS LEFT, man was i disappointed you have no idea
while sitting there taking pride in the finish i had acchieved i noticed a face laughing at me contained with in the wood
NOW DOES THAT ADD INSULT TO INJURY, AND FROM MY OWN CREATION!!!!!!!
SWMBO decided it is a tree spirit haunting me
sorry about the pickies but they are up to my normal appauling quality, for some reason there is a couple of white lines , but i assure you they are not on the pencil at all
thanks for reading, it was a story i just had to tell

Mind you, that does look spectacular. Well done
Cheers,

You clever person you creator of emerging spirits. Incidentally wives do enjoy an oportunity to put in the spurs, never let the truth interfere with a chance to level us out.
Fantastic pen , one of a kind like it a lot , well done however.
Regards Peter. PS dont take any stick re photography or beat yourself up two rules come to mind
1. there is not much depth of sharpness in digital stuff on a budget.
2.Have a good gaze on this site, read the section on photography, practice and learn by degrees.
3. Go to the IAP site in America there are some gurus there pro photographers. On their photo section as well. In the mean time I think you have done well and I had no problem seein your pen.
PS> Those white lines are light reflections from your excellent finish we all knew that no worries.Last edited by Penpal; 30th September 2009 at 01:03 PM. Reason: PS
