Do you use your own pens?
Hey All,
I use a pen daily at work. I've been using one of my Sierra's for about a months now, and decided to start using a rollerball this week, as the Sierra seemed a little rough writing, plus another issue I'll post about another time. I've also started doing some research on Fountain Pens, and which kit would be the best writer.
Anyway, so it got me to thinking - do we all eat our own dogfood, so to speak? Who uses a pen they've made, and which kit do you prefer?

My two most used writing tools are a Pentel P209 pencil (0.9mm) and a Churchill FP in walnut.
Neither were made by me, the first for obvious reasons, the second because it was given to me by Woodenink (Amos). I find the Churchill FP a very good size and the nib is very smooth. I have also written with a Baron FP I made, a bit smaill, and a Jr Gent FP, much better size. But I still prefer the Churchill.
My wife's favourite writer is a Slimline in Glamourz Pink, also made by Woodenink (Amos).

Yup.
We all have... well... "failures" and sometimes it's just not worth re-using a kit. (Like, when it's been re-used several times already and bits are beginning to fall off. )
They become my shed pens. Waste not, want not.
I can't say I've any particular preference for kit, but I do have a definite preference for good quality refills...

I have a Gidgee Baron & Olivewood Sierra on my desk at work. I got an order from CSUSA today and am going to make myself an Imperial Fountain Pen to sit on the desk with my others. I like to have a few on my desk as its free advertising and if anyone that I like takes a liking to one of my users I will usually give it away. This has generated a few sales each time I do it and I'm not in it to make mega bucks, just sell enough to keep my head above water so to speak.
It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

I use a imbuia sierra - nice grain but a knot fell out which I filled with coffee and epoxy.
I also like a baron fountain done in spotty brushbox
and I'm still using no 1 - a slimline, except I've noticed the brass tube has come loose from the timber in the lower section
and I give too many away - usually to my troops whom leave for bigger and better employment opportunitiesregards

Of course. Don't you? I agree with the Sierra kits writing a bit rough as they are. That is why I buy Parker gel refills and install them as standard equipment when I assemble the pens. I can't stand those ball point things that come with the kits. Actually, my number one work pen is a Sierra made for me by Bdar last spring. I have had to refill it a couple of times, I use it so much. The CA finish is so good that it still looks the same as when I got it. Thank you, Darren!

Before I started using my own pens, I always bought gels, as I Iike smooth writers with dark inks, hence why I'm thinking of moving to FP's. The Rollerball writers a lot like a gel though it seems.
Has anyone seen the parker-style gel refills in Australia? None of the standard pen sites have them.

I have only made about half a dozen pens so far but I use most of them because I dont consider them good enough to give away as presents

I use a cross cut osage Elegant Beauty, a camphor laurel Slimline ( large diameter), and a Sheaffer Snorkle fountain pen. Carry the EB which attracts comments.

I use a beautiful antler slimline from Vantoo(pen swap) and a Jnr Gent Fountain Pen from Mike in Nainamo(Canada), also a slimline I made from Sassafras. I had a beautiful American Walnut Churchill from Cisco but it went astray somehow, I still have hopes it may turn up on a work bench one day.!!! On occasion I use Jnr. Emperor M3 steel, but I do a lot of bending over and its weight tended to make it drop out of my top pocket, so use it on special occasions. Amos
I tend to treasure my pen swap pens and it reminds me of them and their efforts and gives me great satisfaction. AmosGood, better, best, never let it rest;

A quick search on Google always brings up one or two useful results I find Pen City have them, as does The Pen Place. I get all mine from Officeworks and off auction sites (mainly Oztion) for the cheaper option.

I was chuffed today when my wife's niece deemed my pens worthy enough to use to sign her marriage papers
The only person I cannot get to accept and use one of my pens is my wife. She says she is afraid of losing it. However she did take a couple of my demo pens along with blanks of the same timber to show some of her colleagues what I do with wood. They were so impressed I got no ordersregards
