    Default Some "ozzie" pens

Getting a bit low on stock for the markets so knocked these up today
A purple gidgee,a Myrtle burl,a huon pine and a striped ebony, these are always a popular line for customers sending overseas Cheers ~ John

Lovely work John. The purple gidgee looks a bit like the Eastern Red Cedar I got from the USA in colour and tones.

A mate of mine saw the "Arab" like pens I played around with the other day - the slimlines gone mad in turning - and wants to put them on his stand at a market. Never know but I don't think it will supplement the superannuation. Still they were fun to make.

Love the shape you do on those, looks so uniform, across the varied timbers, top job mate. i dunno how you can bear to part with your work sometimes, well i do, because it allows you to do more, but you know what i mean i think.

Four ripper pens John. I like the way you do a small roll on the cap end as it meets the center band. Makes a big difference to the overall shape of the cap. I must remember that little trick with Streamlines etc.
    I never forget anything I remember !!

Basically I turn the clip end about 2 mm bigger than the nib end ,because I had four in this lot I did 2 caps together ,then 2 nib ends together ,basic straight turn then a quick taper at the nib ,this allows me the small radius on the cap and the larger radius at the clip.mostly these are quick and cheap so only get a minimum finish sanded to 600 then EEE and glow a couple of coats ,they look good and are different enough to be noticed I get $35 for these and most folk buy several as gifts ,pays the rent hehe, Cheers ~ John

    John,

Those four pens are just animals no not just animals but interesting timbers to me.

I really like the kits however I have difficulty with the flat centreband from time to time they seem tighter than the Streamline other centre bands. Love the quality of the coatings and the clips especially the gold animal centre bands.

Quite a conversation piece can weave quite a story also around the Australian Flowers of the Wattle on the other version.

Alround four for the money, four for the road fitting Aussie touches with both timbers and Australiana, looking good.

    Kind regards Peter.

Thanks Peter and yes the bands are a bit of a push over the raised bit on the activater ,Although Wattle is our national flower I find that kangaroos and koalas are very widely recognised as "ozzie" hehe, I think the gidgee came from "Ben" in a bundle I got recently from him , I have around 150 pens on display each market and sometimes the (not) so humble slims and the like get overlooked for the more flashy and colorful types I have on display ,but they are really bread and butter types ,and allow me some play with more exotic blanks and kits , cheers ~ John
