Package from Oz..
Got a package in the mail .. all SORTS of goodies!
Loads of blanks, stuff we don't see much of around here. Can't wait to turn
the silky oak, I love that stuff but we don't get it much.. and if we do, it tends to have lots of dry rot..
and four nice looking pens, one of them even has my initials in the cap.
(no more people snatching them and saying 'no, this is mine. a friend gave it to me...)
Thanks, Funky!

Goodies
Next skite will be the results of applying very sharp HSS to rapidly spinning timber!

Good to see it all arrived safely (and Customs didn't swipe any of it)
Glad you liked the pens, I thought the initials would be a nice touch
Have fun turning all those blanks, they were some of the best I had..
The two silkys will be very different colours, the uglier blank is very grey for some reason..
Oh and whaddya think of the finish on the Red Cedar Slimline? CA then DO..

That's a nice finish. I haven't tried DO on pens yet, I'll have to try that. I wasn't sure if that was the cedar or bloodwood. It has a nice feel to it.
I'm not worried about the gray in the silky oak. So far when I've turned that, it seems like the gray parts are where a nice figuring starts to show. I turned a small goblet out of it and the grain patterns in the darker parts looked like some sort of alien skin..

The DO was put on to cover up some mistakes actually Who new it'd turn out that spiffy
When I was talking about the grey silky I was talking about the colour difference between pieces, I'd never seen silky that grey colour (which you'll see when you turn it) in a piece before.
I wrote the names of the timbers of the pens on the note didn't I?

you haven't got one for me do you Stirlo?
Shame about the splits in some of the blanks London. The grey colour in the silky is most probably the sapwood. If you like our soft, pale open-grained Silky Oak, you would go nuts over Hairy Oak, Bull Oak, Rose & WA SheOakeverything is something, for a reason:confused:
