    Default Painting the brass tube.

    What type of paint do you guys use to colour a pen brass tube. I use acrylics a bit and if I use a relatively light coloured blank the brass often shows through. I have tried normal turps type paint with some success however often the CA glue removes some of the paint and I don't find this out until the blank is finished.

    Couple of questions I would love answered as I am still learning the craft.

    Is CA the best glue for the brass insert or is there a better alternative ?

    What type of paint is recommended ?

    Do I paint the brass or inside the drilled blank ?

    To colour tubes you can use powder coating, nail polish (on sanded and cleaned tube), or etch primer then acrylic spray. You can also paint the inside, that tends to work better anyway, with nail polish or acrylic paint with paint brush.

    Using CA to glue in tubes just asks for failure. I use epoxy to glue in tubes, but Gorilla Glue (http://www.timberbits.com/gorilla-glue-118ml.html) also works.

    2 coats of gloss enamel works for me with no issues.

    i powder coat mine, and use a 2 part epoxy to gule in my tubes
    had too many opps using CA to glue in the tubes
    my 2 cents worth
