Thread: Painting tubes ?

Hey Pariss i use Fiddly Bits or white Knight equivalent to spray my tubes. Not the el cheapo stuff from $$$ stores. Just a thought what type of glue are you use to glue up. maybe a reaction between the glue and the paint.

Paris it might pay to use an etch primer under the colour. These are acidic and as the name sugested etches into the metal to then provide a good adhesion layer for the final coat. Something like this. (Declaration - I work for this company).

If you are using CA to glue the tubes, try Weldbond instead. It will grip anything. Available at your local Bunnings.

Hi Pariss, I usually use an aerosol grey auto primer from SCA and have had no problems.

Thanks fellers for the advise. I'll grab some Etch Primer today. Hi Greg, re-the CA, the paint forms a barrier on the brass tube so no glue even touches the tube. So the entire strength of the tube glue-up rests with how well the paint sticks to the tube. After I did a forensic dissection of the pens, the paint was well & truly glued to the inside of the pen blanks tho ha ha. At least I saved both kits

I've only ever painted the tubes with nail polish and never had a failure but then I only ever glue with Gary Pye 15 minute epoxy.

I only paint the inside of th blanks with hobby paints. Allso the only type of glue I use is 2 pack stuff.
Tried super glue once and had same problem. No problems with the 2 pack stuff tho.

Prolly good advise too Greg

I think more importantly reverse painting the blank is the thing to do. You still see the glue lines through some of those acrylics especially when turned real thin. You can do both but now you need a slightly larger hole because of the layers of paint. Just my 2 cents.
