There is a pen in here somewhere
Tried to attch the photos but it said a security key was missing? These are what I started out doing and the pen is a Ringed Gidgee I got from Bruce (Simomatra) in a blank swap I really like the wood in this and right now it is my carry pen. but here is the story:
LOML bought me a scrollsaw at a yard sale and I used it to make quite a few things and ended up one day cutting out blanks for spoons, after that it went to pens and I lost touch with the spoons I was making and last weekend I found some that I had cut 2 yrs ago and finshed them just to do something different for a change again. I used my lathe to try and turn the handles on 2 of them and I think they came out good on the 2 long handle ones, the shorter one I used a belt sander and hand palm sander to smooth them out and to also round the backsides of the the 2 others and also the scrapers. They were all soaked in mineral oil laying in the sun. The bowls on the spoons were carved out using a dremel with the long attachment, not perfect but then if you want perfect by the mass produced ones from overseas I feel.

That pen looks good in the photo's, but I'm sure it's even better looking while holding in the hand.

It does and it did. I went ot get my hair cut this morning and the girl who cut it saw the pen and had to have it for her boy friend so I sold it one of the reasons I carry a nice pen like most of you all do. Time to get another one out and sell it. Id I could sell one a day like this I would be happy

Very nice pen Seer. The wood looks great and the finish sets it off.
I only carry one of my early pens, so after hearing your story I think I will upgrade to a later version. Sounds like good advertising.Dallas

Really nice pen there Seer!!
One of the problems with timbers like Ringed Gidgee is capturing theirreal beauty in a photo. TThose of us who know can imagine just how beautiful thaat pen really is.

Does anyone here sell Ringed Gidgee when I get some funds I would like to purchase a few blanks again as I really like this timber. I can't get it right now but hopefully a little up the road.

Beautiful work Jerry, blanks were purchased from The Billinudgel Wood Working Company
Lots of beautiful timber in that place but you really need to visit in person and meet Stan.
