Been a WHILE - Not Quite a Pen - YET

Well its been sometime since I have made a writing stick of any kind

a couple of weeks ago the minister for war and finance decided she needed a display stand for work, and decided I needed to make it for her (she is good at deciding things for me)

To cut a long story short I needed 27 pieces of wood all exactly the same, need a thickness sander but don't want to spend the bucks, innovation is the answer, found the old hand held belt sander and had a brain storm which surprisingly work very well.

I have always had probs with slices for Celtic knots and so forth and decided this would work well so here is the first 2 blanks made this weekend

Right – this was my play attempt red gum, pine and coke can allauminium

Middle – Now that I think I know what I am doing, should have been Black Wood and Red Gum, just goes to show don't think KNOW, it died a terrible death and the pickie could have offended some viewers so no its not there

Left – Now that I KNOW what I am doing – Huon Pine, Cross Cur Red Gum an Coke Can, looks like a suit and tie to me

I will get these on a pen when I can find the jaws for my chuck to do some drilling, I think I need some kids to leave home so I can get my shed back

Mik I'm not sure I got all of that....display stand....27 pieces....sander... and whatever else but bloody hell those blanks look gooddddddddd.

thanks Undies, I typed the message in a word processor and then transferred it across, but it didn't display as previewed, I can't work out how to drop down a line or 2 the enter/return key doesn't seem to want to work in this, someone let me know how you make paragraphs,,, PLEASE,,,, MIK

trying a new web browser and now the enter button works ... YEAH, must be something wrong with windows 8 internet explorer

i have a day off tomorrow and if i can find the jaws for my chuck i should get them drilled and made

thanks for the comments everyone

some bad news, we had to have a funeral service today for the above two blanks, seems that the glue just didn't want to take the stress of drilling

the ashes will be scattered next time i empty the pot belly

i will have another go at making these and drilling before rounding, may even glue some other wood to the outside to add further strength

the knots that i made at the same time have tubes gluing in them at the moment
